Two major winter storms are set to hit the U.S. this week, bringing heavy snow and rain. These storms are expected to cause some of the largest snowfall totals of the season, especially in cities like Chicago and Washington, D.C.
Winter storm watches and warnings are in place from Colorado to Delaware. Cities such as Chicago, Louisville, Baltimore, and Richmond will be affected by the storms.
First Storm: Tuesday to Wednesday
The first storm will begin Tuesday morning and last until Wednesday morning. By early Tuesday, heavy rain will stretch from Dallas to Nashville, while snow will cover areas from Louisville to Richmond.
Snow will reach Washington, D.C. by noon on Tuesday and could last for more than 12 hours. The D.C. and Baltimore areas may receive 4 to 6 inches of snow, while Philadelphia could see 1 to 3 inches.
In the South, heavy rain may lead to flash flooding. A flood watch is in effect for parts of Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and Georgia. Some areas could get up to six inches of rain.
Second Storm: Midwest and East Coast
As the first storm moves out, the second storm will already be forming in the Midwest and the Plains by Wednesday. Heavy snow is expected in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois.
By Wednesday afternoon, the storm will spread from Chicago to Detroit, with Chicago possibly getting 6 inches of snow.
In the East, a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will hit Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston on Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, the storm will turn to rain in these areas.
Expected Impact
The combination of these two storms will bring significant snow in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, along with possible flooding in the South. Travelers and residents in affected areas should prepare for hazardous road conditions and possible power outages.
To stay safe, follow weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel, and have emergency supplies ready. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to provide assistance where needed.
