Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Judge Juan Merchan after the judge rejected his motion to dismiss the hush-money case. The case revolves around a $130,000 payment made during the 2016 presidential campaign to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
Trump is accused of falsifying business records related to the payment. Merchan’s ruling kept the case alive and set a sentencing date for Trump just days before the presidential inauguration.
Trump, in his statement, accused Judge Merchan of “breaking the law” and being “deeply conflicted” and “corrupt.” He claimed the case, initiated by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, was politically motivated, describing it as a “lawfare” attack. Trump has consistently denied the charges, calling them part of a broader “witch hunt.”
The case, which alleges Trump directed his attorney to arrange the payment to silence Daniels about an alleged affair, saw a Manhattan jury convict him of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
Trump’s legal team is now bracing for sentencing, while he continues to decry the proceedings as a “rigged charade.”
