A man from Pennsylvania is facing murder charges after allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend out of fear that she wanted to harm him. Jared Heath Wolfe, 46, is accused of killing Jane White, his girlfriend of seven years, after he became paranoid and believed she planned to kill him and eat his body. White was found dead in the street near Court and South Eleventh streets around 1:45 p.m., police said.
According to police documents, Wolfe fled to a relative’s house after the incident. He told officers that he had smoked what he believed to be marijuana with White and a friend before becoming extremely paranoid. Wolfe admitted that he was unsure if the substance was actually marijuana. Shortly after smoking it, he became frightened and started using a “paranormal meter” to check the “energy” of a statue at his friend’s apartment. He believed the statue had ghostly energy that made him even more anxious.
Wolfe became convinced that White and his friend were trying to harm him. He thought his friend was attempting to cover his mouth with a rag, like scenes in movies where victims are knocked out. Wolfe believed his girlfriend and friend were planning to kill him and eat his body. In a panic, he ran out of the apartment, grabbed a handgun from his car, and loaded it with five bullets.
When White followed him to the car, Wolfe shot her. He later admitted to police that she appeared unarmed when she approached him, but he still believed she intended to harm him. After shooting White, Wolfe drove to his relative’s house and confessed to the murder. The relative called the police, who arrived to arrest him.
In an interview, police asked Wolfe if there was a chance that White had just come out to the car to leave with him. Wolfe replied, “That’s a good question,” and said he could not help White because he was “too messed up” from the drugs he had smoked.
Wolfe is now facing serious charges, including murder. His actions are said to have been driven by extreme paranoia and a distorted perception of reality due to the drug use.
