Tragic Loss: Family Says Goodbye to Woman Killed in Orlando Attack

The First Orlando Worship Center was filled with music and heartfelt words as the community gathered to say goodbye to Lucy Pat Curl, who tragically lost her life during a home invasion last month.

Lucy’s granddaughter, Rebecca Curl, shared touching memories of her grandmother, describing her as someone who made everyone feel relaxed and important. “She always had a way of making you feel needed, even if it was something simple like setting the table at Sunday lunch,” Rebecca said.

The service was filled with personal touches, including photos of Lucy, her license plate, and her yellow tandem bike, which reflected the love and warmth she brought to everyone’s life. During the service, Lucy’s oldest son and grandchildren shared stories about their beloved “Mama Lucy.”

Rebecca recalled how Lucy wasn’t afraid to challenge her family. “She made us ride 10 miles on bikes with matching T-shirts,” she said, bringing laughter and fond memories to the room.

Lucy’s grandson, Roger Rickman, spoke about her bright spirit. “Even while fighting cancer, she remained positive. She lit up every room and made everyone feel happy and better after talking to her.”

Lucy was not just a devoted mother and grandmother, but also a loving pastor’s wife who taught important lessons to everyone she met, including the power of forgiveness. “If we can forgive, we can learn to love each other,” said Lucy’s son, Phillip Curl, sharing the valuable lesson his mother had taught them.

The family has asked for donations to support two causes in Lucy’s honor: the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the First Life Center for Pregnancy, along with the Lucy Pat Curl Missions Scholarship Fund. Donations can be made online to these organizations.

Ronald Davis, the man accused of killing Lucy Pat Curl, is facing murder charges. He is also charged with another home invasion that occurred in November and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
