GREELEY, Colo. — In a heartbreaking case that has shocked Colorado, a man has been sentenced to life in prison for the brutal beating death of an 18-month-old girl in 2021.
After a three-week trial, Andy Carter, 29, was found guilty on Tuesday for the July 2021 death of Emorie Goodro, a toddler who suffered fatal injuries while in his care. At the time of the incident, Carter was dating Emorie’s mother and was babysitting the child when he violently assaulted her.
According to the 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Emorie sustained severe blunt force trauma to her head and brain. She was first taken to Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley before being airlifted to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
During the sentencing hearing, prosecutors focused on Emorie’s short but impactful life, describing her as a beloved, happy, and healthy child whose loss has left an unbearable void. Chief Deputy District Attorney Arynn Clark addressed the court, emphasizing the devastation felt by Emorie’s family.
On Wednesday, the court sentenced Carter to life in prison without the possibility of parole. His conviction ensures that he will spend the rest of his life behind bars for the horrific crime that ended Emorie’s life far too soon.
This heart-wrenching tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the vulnerability of children and the irreversible consequences of abuse.
