Grandmother and Grandson Killed in Kansas Turnpike Crash; Family Sets Up GoFundMe for Expenses
Sumner County, Kansas – A tragic crash on the Kansas Turnpike last week claimed the lives of a grandmother and her 1-month-old grandson.
The fatal incident occurred around midnight on January 2 near Mulvane, Kansas, when a family of nine was traveling in a van with a trailer. According to authorities, the van overturned, and another vehicle traveling southbound on the turnpike crashed into the overturned van.
The victims were identified by their family as 58-year-old Ernestina Eumana-Alvarez and her grandson, 1-month-old Christian Gutierrez, both of Minneapolis. They were killed in the crash. The seven other family members in the van sustained a range of injuries, from serious to minor, and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
The family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of transporting the bodies of Eumana-Alvarez and Gutierrez back to their home in Mexico. The funds raised will also assist with medical expenses for Christian’s mother, who reportedly suffered critical injuries in the crash.
The driver and two passengers in the other vehicle involved in the accident were treated for minor injuries. Authorities have not provided further details regarding the cause of the crash or the identities of the individuals in the second vehicle.
The family is grieving the loss of two loved ones and is grateful for the support of the community during this difficult time. The GoFundMe campaign is being used to ease the financial burden of funeral and medical expenses.
As the investigation continues, the community has expressed their condolences, and donations are pouring in to support the family’s needs. Updates will be provided as more details emerge regarding the circumstances surrounding the crash.
