A 23-year-old woman in Texas has been arrested for allegedly killing her boyfriend in a fit of jealousy after discovering messages from another woman on his phone.
Tatyana Evans was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with murder in the shooting of 28-year-old Geovanni Montague. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and homicide detectives responded to a call in the early morning hours of February 9 about a murder victim on Barely Lane, near Jones Road. When first responders arrived, they found Montague lying unresponsive in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described Montague and Evans’ relationship as “volatile,” saying investigators believe jealousy may have been the motive behind the deadly shooting.
Montague lived with his mother at the Oak Grove apartment complex, which was close to where his body was found. According to court documents, investigators spoke to Montague’s mother, who confirmed that he and Evans were dating but described their relationship as “violent.” She told detectives that Evans had previously harmed her son and that he had even filed a police report in December 2024 after she threatened him. However, no charges were filed against Evans at the time.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the area, which reportedly showed a car matching Evans’ vehicle leaving the scene around the time of the shooting. The video allegedly captured the vehicle speeding away with its headlights off.
Investigators pieced together what happened in the hours leading up to the shooting. On February 8, Montague and Evans spent several hours together at his apartment before she left and returned to her mother’s place. Sometime later, Montague realized he had accidentally left his phone in Evans’ car and called her to let her know.
That’s when everything changed. Evans found his phone, looked through it, and allegedly saw text messages from another woman. Enraged, she reportedly grabbed a .45 pistol and went back to confront Montague.
During their argument, Evans claimed that Montague grabbed her by her jacket. In response, she allegedly fired at him five to six times, leaving him in the street before driving away. She then returned home.
Authorities also noted that Evans is a decorated U.S. Army veteran who previously served in Afghanistan. Now, instead of wearing a uniform, she’s facing serious legal consequences for what investigators believe was a deadly act of jealousy.
