A Texas high school principal was removed from his position last month after an investigation confirmed he had made a serious threat against a colleague.
Marshall Lee Myers, who worked for the Natalia Independent School District, was fired after the district’s board of trustees determined he had violated school policy. The board reached this decision unanimously, confirming that his statement was a real threat.
According to reports, Myers made the threatening remark after a meeting on September 26, 2024. He allegedly told a district employee, “If anybody kills my son’s college record, I’m going to kill you all.” The employee, feeling unsafe, reported the incident to the district. Another staff member also came forward as a witness, supporting the claim.
As a result, Myers was placed on paid administrative leave while the district launched an internal investigation. This was not the first time he had faced disciplinary action—he had also been placed on leave in 2023 for an unrelated incident.
Investigation and Termination
Following the investigation, the school board held a meeting on October 10, 2024. During this meeting, the Superintendent recommended that Myers be fired. The board agreed with this recommendation and voted in favor of terminating his employment.
However, Myers challenged the decision and requested a termination hearing before an Independent Hearing Examiner. The hearing took place from January 8 to January 10, 2025. The examiner, who was appointed by the Texas Commissioner of Education, reviewed the evidence and supported the district’s decision.
On January 31, the board held another meeting and officially voted to fire Myers.
District’s Response
In a public statement, the Natalia Independent School District emphasized that they are committed to providing a safe environment for both employees and students.
“Threats of violence have no place in the workplace, and the District will take swift and decisive action to protect the safety and well-being of its staff and students,” the statement read.
The case highlights the importance of workplace safety and the serious consequences of making threats in a professional setting.
