In a shocking courtroom decision, a Texas jury has found 21-year-old Benjamin Elliot guilty of murdering his twin sister, Meghan, after rejecting his bizarre claim that he was sleepwalking during the fatal attack.
The brutal killing took place in the siblings’ Katy home on September 29, 2021, when they were both 17. According to reports, Benjamin stabbed Meghan multiple times in the neck before calling 911. When officers arrived, he claimed he had removed the knife and attempted to perform CPR, but Meghan was pronounced dead at the scene.
During his initial police interview, Benjamin provided a chilling statement: “I stabbed her and then suddenly wasn’t. I freaked out, put the knife down, and put a pillow on her to try to stop the bleeding.”
The trial, which concluded this week, saw both of Benjamin’s parents testifying in his defense. However, the prosecution dismantled his sleepwalking claim, revealing that data from his phone proved he was using the device shortly before the attack. Prosecutors also highlighted the 20-minute gap between the stabbing and his 911 call.
Adding to the heartbreaking nature of the case, Meghan and Benjamin were described as best friends who had always been incredibly close. Their father, Michael, broke down in tears on the witness stand when shown a picture of his daughter’s body.
