A Miami landlord has been accused of killing his tenant after an argument about the thermostat during a cold snap. Adam Louis Anson, 37, allegedly went to the apartment he rents out on Saturday morning, seeking to change the thermostat settings. It was a rare cold spell in South Florida, with temperatures dropping to the high 40s.
At around 8 a.m., Anson knocked on the window of the tenant’s apartment, which is part of the property he owns on SW 17th Terrace. The thermostat, located in a hallway of the rental unit, became the center of their argument.
Carlos Alberto Gonzalez, 57, the tenant, answered the door. The situation quickly turned violent when Anson allegedly forced his way inside and started punching Gonzalez without warning. He then dragged Gonzalez to the backyard and shot him multiple times in the head.
After the shooting, Anson reportedly adjusted the thermostat before returning to his side of the house. He called 911, and emergency responders rushed Gonzalez to the hospital, but he died from his injuries.
Anson claimed he shot Gonzalez in self-defense, saying the tenant tried to strike him first. However, police did not believe his story. As a result, Anson was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and armed burglary with assault.
Neighbors were shocked by the incident. One neighbor, Leyani Perez, recalled hearing the argument and the gunshots. “I recognized something was wrong in my backyard, and I was terrified,” she said. “I called my husband, and then I heard the shots: boom, boom, boom, boom.”
This tragic event highlights how a minor dispute escalated into a deadly confrontation. Anson is now facing serious charges, and the case is under investigation. The cold snap in Florida, which made temperatures dip to the 40s, added to the tension, as the argument over the thermostat became the trigger for violence.
