Teacher Taken Into Custody After Cocaine Found in Classroom, Authorities Confirm

A sixth-grade teacher from Cheatham County, Tennessee, has been arrested after authorities discovered cocaine in her classroom. Mia King, an English teacher at Cheatham County Middle School, was taken into custody by the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Department after deputies found two baggies containing cocaine in her purse, which was located in a closet near her desk. In addition to the cocaine, law enforcement also uncovered a scooping object and a rolled-up $5 bill with white powdery residue, suggesting drug use.

According to the sheriff’s department, the discovery was made during a search of King’s classroom while she was being detained by a school resource officer in the principal’s office. Authorities noted that King was showing signs of being under the influence of narcotics at the time. Upon being informed of the findings, King reportedly began to cry and requested legal representation.

King, who had been employed as an English teacher at the middle school since 2023, had no prior disciplinary issues listed in her personnel file. However, following the arrest, the school district moved quickly to terminate her employment. A spokesperson for the Cheatham County Schools emphasized that the safety and well-being of students is their top priority, and the district is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the sheriff’s office.

The arrest raises serious concerns about drug use within the educational environment, with school officials reiterating their commitment to providing a safe and supportive space for students. King was booked into the Cheatham County Jail, and her case is now under further investigation.
