EMERYVILLE, Calif. – A 40-year-old Oakland man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that left a woman critically injured Wednesday afternoon outside the BevMo on Christie Avenue, according to police.
The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. when the suspect struck a pedestrian from behind at high speed in the rear parking lot of the BevMo at 5717 Christie Ave. The driver fled the scene without stopping.
Emergency responders transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Authorities used license plate reader cameras to identify the suspect’s vehicle and obtain an image of the driver. The car was later found unoccupied in Oakland. Officers kept it under surveillance and arrested the suspect when he returned to the vehicle around 7 a.m. Thursday.
Detectives reviewed video surveillance footage and confirmed the suspect’s involvement before booking him into Santa Rita Jail on a hit-and-run charge. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse.
