Spanish-Language White House Page and Social Media Shut Down by Trump Administration

Shortly after President Donald Trump’s inauguration, the new administration made a significant change to the White House website by removing its Spanish-language version. This move, which was quickly noticed by the public, left the Spanish-language page, previously accessible at https://www.whitehouse.gov/es/, showing a “404 Error” message. The site included a “Go Home” button, which led users to a video montage of Trump’s first term and campaign trail. Later, this button was updated to read “Go To Home Page.”

This sudden alteration sparked confusion and frustration among Hispanic advocacy groups and other critics, who felt that the administration was not prioritizing communication with the Latino community—a group that played a significant role in Trump’s path to the presidency. In addition to the removal of the Spanish-language White House website, the Spanish version of the White House’s X (formerly Twitter) account, @LaCasaBlanca, and the government page on reproductive freedom were also taken down. However, Spanish-language resources on other government websites, including the Department of Labor, Justice, and Agriculture, remained operational as of Tuesday.

In response to inquiries about the changes, White House principal deputy press secretary Harrison Fields stated that the administration was in the process of updating and improving the White House website. He explained that some archived content had gone dormant, but assured the public that the Spanish translation section would be reinstated soon. Fields emphasized that the administration was committed to reloading this content within a short time frame, although he did not provide specific details on when it would be restored.

This move mirrored an earlier action in 2017 when Trump’s administration removed the Spanish-language section of the White House website. At that time, officials assured the public that it would be reinstated, but it was only brought back in 2021 under President Joe Biden’s administration.
