Washington, D.C., is gearing up for a winter wonderland as a snowstorm blankets the region with 8 to 10 inches of snow. With the snowy season in full swing, a cherished local tradition is making its grand return: the iconic snowball fight hosted by the Washington DC Snowball Fight Association (DCFSA).
This year’s event, “The Great Meridian Chill Battle of 2025,” will take place on Monday, January 6, at 11 a.m. in Meridian Hill Park, Northwest. Snow lovers from across the city are invited to join this frosty fun, which dates back to February 2010 when the DCFSA hosted its first mega-event.
Open to all and free to attend, the snowball fight is a perfect opportunity to embrace the joys of winter and connect with the community. However, participants are reminded to prioritize safety. Key guidelines include avoiding reckless behavior, not throwing ice, steering clear of moving vehicles, and adhering to instructions from National Park Police and the Metropolitan Police Department.
Participants are encouraged to dress warmly, wear goggles to protect their eyes, and stay home if recovering from a medical condition.
The DCFSA, in its announcement, said, “See you on the battlefield!”—a fitting call to action for snow enthusiasts eager to enjoy this frosty tradition.
Whether you’re a seasoned snowball thrower or simply looking to bask in the beauty of D.C.’s snowy landscape, this event promises laughter, camaraderie, and an unforgettable start to the winter season. Bundle up, grab your gloves, and prepare for a snowball showdown!
