A 20-year-old Pennsylvania woman, Anjela Borisova Urumova, admitted to lying about an attempted rape and kidnapping, which led to an innocent man spending 31 days in jail. Urumova pleaded guilty to seven charges, including making false reports, tampering with evidence, and lying to authorities, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.
The incident occurred on April 16, 2024, in the parking lot of a Redner’s supermarket in Middletown Township, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia and Trenton, New Jersey. Urumova falsely claimed that 41-year-old Daniel Pierson attacked her, pulled down her pants, and hit her, leaving a visible cut on her lip. She provided detailed descriptions of Pierson and his vehicle, a dark blue Ford F-150 with a “thin blue line” sticker, commonly associated with police support.
Police reviewed surveillance footage from nearby stores and analyzed Urumova’s phone records. Their investigation uncovered inconsistencies in her story. When confronted with the evidence, Urumova admitted she had fabricated the entire incident. She revealed that her lip injury actually came from an incident with her grandmother, who has dementia and mistakenly threw an object at her.
Urumova also admitted she deliberately targeted Pierson, calling him “creepy” because she had seen him and his truck before. She used this prior knowledge to provide specific details to the police, leading to his wrongful arrest. Pierson was charged with serious crimes and jailed for over a month before authorities discovered the truth and dropped the charges.
Common Pleas Judge Stephen Corr postponed Urumova’s sentencing to allow for a detailed presentence investigation.
