Shocking Tragedy: Ohio Baby Dies After Being Slammed for Crying

A 15-month-old girl, Vivian Jaymes Gardner, tragically passed away after being allegedly harmed by her babysitter, Michael Mayor, in Piqua, Ohio, on December 5, 2024. Vivian’s family has expressed deep grief, remembering her as a joyful, loving, and lively child who brought happiness to everyone around her.

According to police, the incident occurred when Vivian’s usual babysitter was unavailable, and Michael Mayor was looking after her. He tried to lay her down for a nap on the bedroom floor. Later that day, when Vivian’s regular caregiver returned, the child was found lying on the floor, seemingly asleep. However, as the hours passed, the babysitter grew concerned because Vivian didn’t wake up by 3 p.m. When attempts were made to rouse her, Vivian remained unresponsive.

Vivian was rushed to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where doctors confirmed that she had suffered severe brain injuries, including a skull fracture and a subdural hematoma. Doctors described her injuries as among the worst they had ever seen. Despite being placed on life support, Vivian never regained consciousness and passed away on December 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Michael Mayor has been charged with multiple offenses, including three counts of murder, endangering children, and felonious assault. In his confession, he admitted to shaking Vivian when she wouldn’t stop crying. When she cried louder, he allegedly slammed her on the floor multiple times until she stopped crying. Mayor thought she had fallen asleep and left her there. The injuries she suffered were the result of a “massive impact” on her small body.

In a touching tribute, Vivian’s father, Jeremy Gardner, asked that people remember his daughter for her life, not her death. He shared how Vivian, with her fiery red hair, sparkling blue eyes, and mischievous grin, was full of joy and love. She was especially close to her older sister, Evelyn, and loved dancing, singing, and playing with her. Her favorite things included watching movies like Finding Nemo and Moana, and enjoying steak, chocolate donuts, and Diet Coke.

Vivian’s family will forever miss her vibrant spirit and the love she shared with everyone around her. They are seeking help as they navigate their grief and prepare for the legal proceedings.
