A horrifying series of events unfolded in Chicago, leaving a woman dead and two children critically injured. The suspect, 39-year-old Marcus Bausley, was released from the hospital and booked into the Lake County, Indiana, Jail on Sunday after an intense multi-state manhunt.
Authorities say Bausley brutally attacked his girlfriend, 33-year-old Teone Jones, while she was preparing dinner in her South Eberhart home on Thursday evening. Jones suffered multiple stab wounds and was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The tragedy escalated when Jones’ 11-year-old son was discovered a mile away, also stabbed multiple times. As officials searched for Jones’ missing 8-year-old son, an Amber Alert was issued Friday morning. Surveillance footage later revealed the boy desperately seeking help from strangers. He was eventually found wandering near a gas station in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
The manhunt intensified when Bausley was spotted in northwest Indiana. A high-speed police chase ensued after he triggered a license plate reader. The pursuit ended dramatically when Bausley refused to exit his vehicle and put a knife to his own throat. Officers eventually took him into custody, and he was treated for a superficial neck wound before being booked into jail.
Bausley now faces multiple serious charges, including attempted murder, aggravated battery, and kidnapping. He is awaiting extradition to Illinois.
Meanwhile, both young victims remain hospitalized. The younger boy is showing signs of recovery, while his older brother remains in critical condition, requiring multiple surgeries. Family members revealed that the 11-year-old sustained severe defensive wounds while fighting for his life.
As the community grapples with this devastating tragedy, authorities continue their investigation into the horrifying sequence of events that led to a mother’s murder and her children’s near-fatal injuries.
