A Conway man is in custody following an assault at a Walmart on Church Street that left one victim severely injured. Jeremiah Harris, 27, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, disorderly conduct, and third-degree assault. The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. when Conway police responded to a disturbance at the Walmart.
Upon arrival, officers found two victims, one with redness on their face and the other with blood on their mouth. The second victim, identified only as “Mr. George,” shared his account of the attack from a hospital bed, describing the event as “unbelievable” and a “not a happy time” in his life.
According to the police report, the victims were in line when they asked Harris about the lane he was in. Harris allegedly responded with profanity. After the brief exchange, the victims proceeded to check out, but Harris allegedly struck George with a bag containing frozen pizza rolls. When George tried to defend himself, Harris reportedly punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground, where Harris continued to kick him.
George described being struck in the mouth and feeling dazed before being stomped on while on the ground. The second victim attempted to intervene but was also struck and pushed into a checkout station.
Harris was arrested at the scene, and the assault is noted to have caused “great bodily injury” to George. Harris is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bond.
George was taken to a hospital with concerns about his health, as he previously lost one kidney due to cancer. Now, the assault has jeopardized his remaining kidney, leaving him worried about the potential need for dialysis or further medical intervention. He hopes for justice and has launched a GoFundMe to help cover his medical expenses.
