In Westlake, Ohio, a woman reported being stalked after having security cameras installed at her business property. According to the Westlake Police Department, officers received a call from the victim, a property manager, on December 16, 2024. She informed them about receiving alarming and sexually explicit messages and videos on her business cell phone from an unknown individual.
Authorities stated that the suspect not only knew the woman’s name but also referenced her daily attire, suggesting he had visual access to her. Additionally, he mentioned sending her a gift, though police did not disclose what the gift was. The woman suspected that the man who installed the security cameras in her building was responsible for the harassment.
Captain Jerry Vogel of the Westlake Police Department acknowledged the frightening nature of the case, stating that the messages were both threatening and intrusive, indicating that the suspect had the ability to see the victim. Officers traced the phone numbers associated with the messages and identified 57-year-old Robert S. Hocevar as the suspect.
Further investigation revealed that Hocevar owned a security company responsible for installing surveillance cameras and alarm systems throughout Northeast Ohio. Authorities also discovered that he had previously harassed a bartender in a similar manner after installing security cameras at her workplace. In both cases, Hocevar used multiple phone numbers to send disturbing messages.
Police records show that Hocevar has a history of telecommunications harassment dating back to the 1980s. His criminal record includes convictions for aggravated robbery, attempted murder, and menacing by stalking. Given his history, officials believe there may be additional victims in the Northeast Ohio area.
Investigators are urging anyone who has experienced harassment after using Hocevar’s security company to come forward. The Westlake Police Department is asking potential victims to contact them at 440-871-3311.
