Russ Oliver, Charles Weiss Lead Legal Defense for Leon Lamb in Lawless Case

In Scott County, Missouri, an Arkansas man named Leon Lamb is facing charges related to the 1992 death of Mischelle Lawless. Lamb, who was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in December 2024, is currently in custody in Conway, Arkansas, without bond. Local attorney Russ Oliver, along with Charles Weiss, the attorney for an exonerated man, will jointly represent Lamb in the ongoing case.

The charges stem from the cold case involving Lawless, whose death occurred in Scott County over three decades ago. Lamb was arrested in Conway, Arkansas, in connection with the case, and despite the charges, he has declined to waive extradition to Missouri. As a result, Lamb remains held in an Arkansas jail as the legal process unfolds.

In response to the situation, Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe has issued a governor’s warrant for Lamb’s extradition. The warrant was sent to Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, urging the transfer of Lamb to Scott County to face the charges. Heartland News reached out to Governor Sanders’ office to inquire about the status of the extradition process but has not yet received a response.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts to resolve a cold case from more than 30 years ago, with legal teams now actively working on behalf of Lamb as the murder investigation continues. The next steps will depend on the progress of the extradition process and the upcoming legal proceedings in Scott County.
