In a major breakthrough, Richmond police have arrested a driver accused of hitting a pedestrian and fleeing the scene—all thanks to advanced license plate reader technology.
The shocking incident occurred early Thursday morning at 4:35 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at Valley View Road and Morningside Drive. Upon arrival, police found the victim with significant injuries. The pedestrian was rushed to a nearby trauma center for treatment and is expected to survive.
Technology Leads to Arrest
Investigators quickly reviewed surveillance footage from the area but were initially unable to make out the suspect vehicle’s license plate. However, using data from a Flock license plate reader camera, officers were able to track down the suspect’s vehicle and identify the driver.
Later that evening, Richmond police arrested the suspect, who allegedly admitted to being involved in the hit-and-run. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name.
This case highlights the growing role of technology in solving crimes and holding offenders accountable. Thanks to swift investigative efforts, police were able to track down the suspect within hours, bringing justice to the injured victim.
