Police Chase Ends in Crash, Man Hospitalized in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – A high-speed police chase ended in a dramatic crash on Thursday, leaving one man hospitalized in serious condition, according to Georgia State Patrol (GSP) officials.

The incident began at 4:41 p.m. when a GSP trooper attempted to stop a white Dodge Avenger clocked at 91 mph in a 45 mph zone on Hephzibah McBean Road. Instead of pulling over, the driver initiated a pursuit, recklessly speeding and endangering public safety.

In an attempt to stop the vehicle, the trooper attempted a PIT maneuver, but the suspect suddenly slammed on the brakes. As a result, the patrol vehicle ended up beside the suspect’s car. At that moment, the driver deliberately rammed the trooper’s vehicle on the passenger side, which led to him losing control.

The suspect’s car veered off the road, crashing through a fence and ditch before colliding with a parked truck in a private driveway. Emergency responders arrived on the scene and transported the driver to the hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
