A heartbreaking chapter for one Ohio family has come to a painful close. The man who took Becky Kerr’s life back in February 1980 has been granted parole after spending 45 years behind bars.
Lincoln Mabry, convicted of aggravated murder, shot and killed Becky—his girlfriend at the time—right in front of her 8-year-old daughter outside a gas station in Perry Township, Stark County. Now, despite decades of efforts from Becky’s family to keep him in prison, he is set to be released.
“We just don’t feel he deserves to be with his family,” said Becky’s brother, Joe Kerr. “We haven’t seen Becky in 45 years. He killed her when she was only 29.”
For Becky’s loved ones, the fight to keep Mabry in prison was more than just about justice—it was about making sure he never had another chance to hurt anyone again. Her daughter, Melissa Binius, has spoken openly about the trauma he caused.
“There’s so many things that man did to my mother and me that people don’t know,” she shared in a past interview. “He’s evil, very evil, and that doesn’t go away.”
Though they can no longer stop his release, Becky’s family is determined to keep her story alive. Joe Kerr hopes that by sharing what happened to his sister, they can help prevent others from going through the same tragedy.
“Our fight to keep him in prison is over,” he said. “But if we can help even one person avoid what Becky went through, then we’ll keep telling her story.”
Becky Kerr’s family will continue their mission, turning their pain into a message of awareness and support for victims of domestic violence.
