Man Arrested in Sumter County Linked to Multiple Robberies, Deputies Say

In a dramatic turn of events, John Demont Mickens, a man arrested in connection with an armed robbery, has now been identified as a suspect in another robbery, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO). Mickens was apprehended on Thursday after a call was made to Sumter County Dispatch about a robbery at a store on Camden Highway.

Deputies have now charged Mickens with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm, and two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. These charges stem from an armed robbery that took place on January 8 at a store on Highway 261 South and Wedgefield. In both incidents, Mickens allegedly entered the store as employees were closing, demanded money at gunpoint, and fled the scene.
