The mayor of Bogalusa, Louisiana, Tyrin Truong, has been arrested on serious charges related to drug trafficking. He is accused of helping distribute illegal drugs, including opioids, marijuana, THC products, and MDMA. Truong, who is 25 years old, faces multiple charges. These include conducting illegal transactions involving drug money, using someone else’s personal property without permission, and asking for sex from prostitutes.
The Louisiana State Police announced the charges on Tuesday, and Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill stated there is zero tolerance for wrongdoing, especially from public officials. Truong and six other people from Bogalusa were arrested after a long investigation by the Louisiana State Police’s Narcotics and Violent Crime Task Force. The investigation focused on a drug trafficking group operating in Bogalusa, a city of around 10,000 people.
The investigation started in April 2024 and lasted several months. During this time, police learned that the group used social media to sell drugs and collect payments. The profits from these illegal sales were reportedly used to buy guns. Some of the guns were given to people who were not allowed to own them, and others were involved in violent crimes in the area.
District Attorney Collin Sims said the authorities would continue working hard to protect the people of Bogalusa and that their investigation is not over. Truong and the six other suspects are now in jail, facing drug-related charges.
After his arrest, Truong posted a message on his Facebook saying, “Joy comes in the morning!” He had been elected as mayor of Bogalusa in 2022, after winning the election with 56% of the vote. His opponent, the incumbent mayor, received only 19% of the vote. Since being elected, Truong had called for more police presence in the city, which some say helped reduce crime rates in Bogalusa.
Despite his efforts to improve public safety, Truong now faces serious legal issues. His bond has been set at $150,000, and he remains in jail. The investigation into the drug trafficking group is ongoing, and officials are committed to continuing their efforts to combat crime in the community.
