Farmville Man Found Guilty of Second-Degree Murder in 2022 Shooting
A Pitt County jury has convicted Timothy Baker, a Farmville resident, of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Jaquan Davis over two years ago. The verdict was announced on Thursday following a week-long trial.
Superior Court Judge Andrew Womble sentenced Baker to a prison term of 20 to 25 years in state custody. The sentence takes into account the approximately two and a half years Baker has already spent in the Pitt County Jail while awaiting trial.
The case dates back to May 25, 2022, when the shooting occurred at Mozingo’s Corner Stop, a convenience store on Stantonsburg Road. According to court evidence, 21-year-old Jaquan Davis, a Greenville resident, was shot multiple times during the incident. Emergency services transported Davis to ECU Health Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Law enforcement officials launched an investigation immediately following the shooting. Baker was identified as the primary suspect and taken into custody. Over the course of the trial, prosecutors presented evidence and witness testimony linking Baker to the crime, ultimately convincing the jury of his guilt.
The trial, which began on Monday, was closely watched by members of the community, many of whom were shaken by the tragic loss of Davis. In court, Davis was remembered as a young man with potential, whose life was cut short in a senseless act of violence.
The conviction brings closure to a case that has weighed heavily on the local community. While the sentencing marks the end of Baker’s trial, the broader issues surrounding gun violence and its impact on families remain pressing concerns in the area.
This case highlights the efforts of Pitt County law enforcement and judicial officials to address violent crime and ensure accountability for perpetrators. The community continues to mourn Davis’ loss, while his family seeks to honor his memory despite the pain of his absence.
