Two people have been charged in connection with the tragic death of 23-year-old Army soldier Katia Dueñas Aguilar, police announced on Saturday.
Aguilar, a private first class stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky, was found dead on May 18, 2024, at a home in Clarksville, Tennessee. According to an autopsy report, she suffered 68 stab wounds, mainly to her neck.
Aguilar served as an information technology specialist in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division.
Police revealed that 35-year-old Sofia Rodas has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Aguilar’s husband, 40-year-old Reynaldo Salinas Cruz, faces charges of tampering with evidence.
At the time of their indictment, both Rodas and Cruz were already in federal custody for unrelated charges. They were extradited to Clarksville on Friday and taken to the Montgomery County Jail.
It is currently unclear whether Rodas or Cruz have legal representation for these charges.
Police stated that the case remains under investigation and is awaiting prosecution. No further details are available for public release at this time.
The Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) assisted law enforcement in the investigation.
