A tragic car crash near Ponchatoula, Louisiana, claimed the life of a 65-year-old woman, Peggy J. Williams, on Wednesday night (January 22). The accident happened on LA 22, east of Ponchatoula, close to the Bedico community, just a day after a rare snowstorm swept across South Louisiana.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred at around 8:10 p.m. when Williams’ 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a 2011 Ford F-150 driven by Kody Lacour of Picayune, Mississippi.
Authorities report that neither driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Williams sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where she later passed away. Lacour, on the other hand, suffered only minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.
State police believe alcohol played a role in the crash. Lacour was arrested and charged with first-offense DWI (driving while intoxicated) and obstruction of a court order.
