HEARTBREAKING: Elderly Couple Beaten, Robbed in Violent Union Township Home Invasion

UNION TOWNSHIP, N.J. – In a shocking case of violence, four Newark men have been charged in connection with a brutal home invasion and carjacking that left an elderly couple injured and shaken.

According to Union Township police, the crime occurred on the morning of September 20 when the suspects allegedly forced their way into the couple’s home. Once inside, the intruders physically assaulted the victims before robbing them. Authorities say the attackers then stole the keys to a luxury vehicle parked in the driveway and fled the scene.

The suspects—identified as Asim Key, 20; Altamir Thornton, 22; Yashir Phillips, 19; and Rahiem Maldonado, 22—are also believed to be responsible for a string of burglaries across the state that took place the night before this violent incident.

All four men face serious charges, including carjacking, burglary, and aggravated assault. Authorities confirmed that Maldonado, Thornton, and Phillips are currently being held at Bergen County Jail on unrelated charges, while Key remains in custody at Essex County Jail.
