A man has been charged with the fatal shooting of two teenage boys last year near his home in the Back of the Yards neighborhood in Chicago.
Adrian Sanchez, 25, is accused of killing 15-year-old Miguel Meza and 17-year-old Carlos Galindo on August 3. The incident happened around 6 p.m. on the 4800 block of South Winchester Avenue. According to Chicago police, someone in a car drove up to the area, and one of the occupants opened fire.
Both boys were struck by the gunfire and later pronounced dead at Comer Children’s Hospital.
Miguel’s mother, Ofelia Garcia, described her son as a kind-hearted and generous person who always looked for ways to help others. She shared that Miguel’s dream was to support homeless people in the city. “If you were hungry, he would share his food. If you needed something, he would give you the shirt off his back. He was a good person,” Garcia said.
Police arrested Sanchez on Thursday just two blocks away from where the shooting occurred. Sanchez, who lives on the 4300 block of South Marshfield Avenue, is now facing two felony charges of first-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sunday.
