Heartbreaking: Brother Charged with Killing Sister in Rock Hill Claims Innocence in Court

Anthony Louis Lopez, 39, appeared in Rock Hill Municipal Court on January 17, 2025, where he faced charges for the alleged brutal murder of his sister, Lisa Rosenzweig. Police in Rock Hill accuse Lopez of hitting Rosenzweig, 53, in the head, leading to her death on November 9 at her Cauthen Street home in Rock Hill. Lopez had been in custody in North Carolina since early December after his arrest on a fugitive warrant.

During his court appearance, Lopez claimed his innocence, telling Judge Sara Russell, “I didn’t murder Lisa — just for the record.” He chose to waive his right to legal representation and opted to represent himself in the trial. Rock Hill police Detective Robert Smith testified that Rosenzweig had allowed Lopez to stay with her just two days before her death, offering him a temporary place to stay. However, on November 9, her daughters requested a welfare check after they couldn’t reach her, and officers found her lifeless body. The arrest warrant alleges Lopez used “an unknown object” in the attack.

Judge Russell denied Lopez bail, stating that only a higher Circuit Court judge in York County can set bond in murder cases with severe penalties. Lopez remains in custody at the York County jail until his next court appearance, where he may again request bail.
