Harry and Meghan Call for Action: Help L.A. Fire Victims Rebuild Lives

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are urging people to support those affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. Over 180,000 residents have been forced to evacuate as flames spread across the county, destroying homes, schools, and medical facilities. Thousands of acres have already been burned, and a state of emergency has been declared.

On their website, sussex.com, Harry and Meghan shared a heartfelt message:
“In recent days, wildfires in Southern California have torn through neighborhoods, leaving families, homes, and communities in ruins. This has impacted tens of thousands of people from all walks of life.”

The couple, who live in Montecito, California, with their two children, highlighted organizations working on the frontlines to provide aid. Among them is World Central Kitchen, led by Chef José Andrés. The charity, a partner of the couple’s Archewell Foundation, is delivering meals to both wildfire victims and first responders. They also recognized CAL FIRE, the L.A. Fire Department Foundation, and the Animal Wellness Foundation, which helps animals and wildlife affected by the fires.

Harry and Meghan encouraged locals to step up and help. They wrote:
“If you can, open your home to a friend, loved one, or even a pet who has been displaced. Please check on elderly or disabled neighbors to ensure they’re safe and supported during evacuations.”

The couple also called on people to donate essential items to help families who have lost everything, including clothes, children’s toys, and other necessities. The American Red Cross is one of the organizations providing aid on the ground.

Fueled by strong Santa Ana winds, the wildfires began earlier this week in Pacific Palisades and have since spread to Malibu and Santa Monica. The Palisades Fire is partially contained, but others, like the Eaton Fire, remain completely uncontained. A new wildfire erupted Thursday evening in West Hills, near Calabasas and Hidden Hills, putting more homes at risk.

So far, ten people have died, and the death toll is expected to rise. As residents face ongoing evacuations and uncertainty, Harry and Meghan’s message offers hope and encourages communities to come together in this time of crisis.
