A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting at an apartment complex in Grovetown, Georgia, officials reported on Wednesday morning. Isaiah Bautista, 20, of Augusta, was apprehended near Windsor Spring Road and Meadowbrook Drive while still in the suspect vehicle observed fleeing from the shooting scene. Grovetown Police stated that Bautista was found with a firearm at the time of his arrest and had multiple outstanding felony warrants from Richmond County and Reidsville, Georgia.
Bautista was taken to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center to address these warrants, and additional charges related to the shooting are expected. Investigators are continuing their work to identify a second suspect involved in the incident. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest.
The shooting occurred on Tuesday at 5:02 p.m. in the 1000 block of Joiner Circle, Joiner Crossing Apartments. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper chest. The victim was conscious when emergency responders arrived and was later transported to a local hospital for surgery. While his injuries are serious, they are not believed to be life-threatening.
According to officials, two unknown males entered the apartment and one of them fired several rounds, hitting the victim once. The suspects were observed fleeing the scene on foot and getting into a vehicle. One suspect wore a mask, and both were dressed in dark-colored hoodies. Local cameras, including doorbell cameras, helped capture the suspects as they fled.
While several people, including an infant, were present in the apartment at the time, no one else was injured. Grovetown Police emphasized that the shooting appears to have been a targeted attack, and there is no ongoing danger to the community. Authorities are continuing to pursue leads and a vehicle description to identify the second suspect involved in the crime.
