Body of Michigan Father Found After Missing Over Holiday Weekend
The body of 52-year-old Robert Loren Bacon, a Michigan father who went missing during a family gathering over the holidays, has been found. Bacon’s body was discovered on January 4, around 2 p.m. local time, by dive teams searching the Cass River near Heritage Park in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Authorities believe the cause of death to be drowning, though the final determination will be made by the Saginaw County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Bacon, from Byron, Michigan, was last seen on December 27, attending a family gathering at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth. He was reported missing on December 30, after leaving to move his car but failing to return. According to reports, Bacon had gone to change shoes and planned to meet his daughter at the pool, but his whereabouts became unclear shortly afterward. Surveillance footage showed him heading toward the hotel’s fun center, but there was no evidence of him leaving the building. His car showed no signs of foul play, and his phone had been off since the night of his disappearance.
Bacon, a Navy veteran, had enjoyed nature and often walked around the area, particularly by the riverbanks, according to his ex-wife, Melissa McLenna. She recalled that he had been in good spirits when he spoke to their daughter just before he went missing. McLenna expressed her family’s devastation at the discovery and thanked everyone who had helped in the search, particularly the Frankenmuth community and first responders.
The investigation into Bacon’s death is ongoing. The Frankenmuth Police Department has extended its sympathies to the family, as this tragic event continues to impact his loved ones. Bacon’s family remains in mourning, especially his two daughters, ages 15 and 13, who have struggled with the uncertainty of their father’s disappearance.
