Las Vegas, NV – A routine hiking trip at Red Rock Canyon turned into a dramatic rescue mission on Sunday when a man suffered a severe lower leg injury at Calico 1. Authorities sprang into action to save the injured hiker, who was unable to move on his own after a sudden fall.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Search and Rescue team, the hiker and a friend were making their way back to the trailhead when disaster struck. The man lost his balance, suffering a painful leg injury that left him stranded on the rugged terrain. His friend, realizing the severity of the situation, hurried back to the parking lot to call 911.
Emergency responders from the Clark County Fire Department and Las Vegas Fire Department quickly mobilized to reach the injured man. The difficult landscape made the rescue operation especially challenging, but the team pressed forward with urgency.
Once first responders located the hiker, they stabilized him while assessing the safest way to extract him from the area. Given the rocky and steep conditions, a helicopter rescue was deemed the best option. The Search and Rescue team deployed a hoist to lift the hiker to safety, airlifting him out of the canyon.
After the dramatic air rescue, the injured man was taken to a nearby fire station before being transported to a hospital via ambulance. His current condition remains unknown.
