A Georgetown High School basketball coach was arrested on Wednesday evening after a fight escalated when he allegedly retrieved a firearm from his vehicle. Timothy Hallman, a 63-year-old assistant basketball coach from Georgetown, faces charges of possession of a firearm on school property.

According to the Georgetown Police Department, the altercation occurred around 6:30 p.m. at the Georgetown High School gymnasium. Officers were dispatched to the scene after reports of a fight between two assistant basketball coaches. During the altercation, police say Hallman went to his car and retrieved a handgun, intending to reenter the gym.

However, upon returning to the gym, Hallman was stopped at the door by bystanders who requested that he leave the premises. He complied with their request and drove off campus. Shortly after, law enforcement officers, assisted by Georgetown County deputies, went to Hallman’s residence to take him into custody. They confiscated the handgun as part of their investigation.

Hallman was booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center, where he is being held on the firearm charge. A bond hearing for the coach is scheduled for Thursday morning.
