According to St. Helena Parish Sheriff Clay Chutz, the victims include 40-year-old Rhonda Powell, her 10-year-old son Braylon, and her one-year-old nephew Hayden. Family members identified the victims and revealed the devastating impact of the loss.

A relative, Deondra Robertson-Warner, stated that Jones, who has a history of schizophrenia, had been experiencing episodes prior to the incident. On Wednesday, January 8, family members took him to a medical center for evaluation, where he was prescribed new medication and subsequently sent home.

The following day, a family member visiting the home discovered the bodies of the victims and found Jones still inside the residence. Authorities allege that Jones stabbed the victims to death, although the motive remains unclear.

Sheriff Chutz expressed condolences to the victims’ families, first responders, and the wider community, calling the event a “horrible tragedy.” He praised the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and emergency services during the investigation.
