Breaking News: Suspect in Bronx Stabbing of Teenager Taken into Custody

Suspect Charged in Fatal Stabbing of 14-Year-Old Boy in the Bronx

A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the tragic stabbing death of a 14-year-old boy in the Bronx on Friday. The suspect, identified as Waldo Mejia, faces charges including second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. Police believe Mejia may also be connected to an earlier, unprovoked stabbing incident.

The incident occurred early Friday morning when 14-year-old Caleb Rios was standing on a street corner near the Mitchell Houses in the Mott Haven area of the Bronx. Authorities say Mejia approached Rios without warning and stabbed him. The attack was unprovoked and left the teenager unconscious on the ground. Emergency responders rushed Rios to Lincoln Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police quickly began an investigation into the stabbing, and Mejia was apprehended shortly thereafter. He was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter, and investigators are working to determine if his actions were connected to any prior violent incidents. Authorities have noted that the attack on Rios appears to have been random, as there was no known prior interaction between the suspect and the victim.

The tragic loss of Caleb Rios has devastated his family and the local community. Friends and loved ones have expressed their shock and sorrow over the senseless killing. Law enforcement continues to gather details about Mejia’s background and any possible motives for the attack.

Mejia remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings. The Bronx community, still grappling with the loss, hopes for justice as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack unfolds.
