A Garland man has agreed to a 17-year prison sentence as part of a plea deal following a deadly drunk driving crash that claimed the life of 13-year-old Brooklyn Moran in 2022. Jeremy Spencer, who was intoxicated behind the wheel, hit Brooklyn’s family SUV head-on, causing her tragic death.
Spencer, 34, pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault. The sentences for the assault charges will run concurrently with the manslaughter sentence, totaling 17 years in prison. As part of the plea deal, Spencer will be eligible for parole, a decision that has left Brooklyn’s family devastated.
The crash occurred in September 2022 when Spencer, who was driving without a valid license due to a prior DWI conviction, crossed the center line and collided with Brooklyn’s vehicle. Brooklyn’s mother, Brittney Moran, and a young friend were also injured in the crash.
Spencer’s criminal history includes multiple bond violations since the crash, including failed drug tests for cocaine and methamphetamine. Despite these violations, he has remained out on bond until now.
Brooklyn’s parents, Brittney and David Moran, will have the chance to confront Spencer at his formal sentencing on March 3, where they plan to share their feelings and grief over the senseless loss of their daughter.
Brittney, who was severely injured in the crash and had no memory of the event, is now preparing for the emotional moment of facing her daughter’s killer in court.
This heartbreaking case is set to continue, with Brooklyn’s family hoping for closure as they await Spencer’s final sentencing.
