Several fire departments in Eastern North Carolina responded to a mobile home fire in Beaufort County Tuesday night as a snowstorm moved through the area. The fire occurred at a double-wide trailer in Chocowinity, prompting a response from the Blounts Creek Volunteer Fire Department, which assisted the Chocowinity Fire Department. The call came in just after 9:45 p.m.
Despite the challenging winter weather, the Blounts Creek department, operating with only three volunteers due to the storm, arrived on the scene within minutes. However, heavy snow, low visibility, and freezing temperatures made the situation more difficult, slowing down the response efforts.
The first firefighter to arrive was the Chocowinity Fire Chief, who took command of the operation. Fire officials confirmed that all residents of the mobile home were able to safely evacuate before crews arrived.
In addition to Chocowinity and Blounts Creek, several other local fire departments joined the response effort. The Vanceboro Fire Department and Old Ford Volunteer Fire Department also responded, providing additional manpower and support. Beaufort County Emergency Services and the Town of Chocowinity EMS were also on hand to assist with the emergency.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, the combined efforts of the emergency responders managed to bring the fire under control after several hours. The crews worked tirelessly amid heavy snowfall, freezing temperatures, and a wind chill that dipped into single digits. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and all residents were safely evacuated from the mobile home.
This incident highlights the resilience of local fire departments and emergency responders, who faced challenging conditions to protect lives and property during a severe winter storm.
