Austin Police Arrest Drug Dealer for Retaliation Against Officers

On February 4, Austin police arrested 18-year-old Keona Rawls, a known drug dealer, on multiple charges, including retaliation against law enforcement officers. The arrest followed a series of drug transactions that were captured by Austin Police Department (APD) HALO cameras, which recorded Rawls engaging in illicit activities in the alley behind 400 East 6th Street in downtown Austin.

Two officers assigned to the area responded to the footage and attempted to detain Rawls. As they approached her, Rawls made threatening statements, expressing an intent to kill the officers. During her arrest, she told the officers, “I want to kill you,” a direct and alarming declaration. Rawls was subsequently taken into custody, and her behavior continued to escalate.

At the Travis County Jail, Rawls made further threats, claiming she would dance on the grave of one of the arresting officers and shoot him, saying she would “mow him down.” She also expressed her anticipation of the officer’s death. Investigators later uncovered that Rawls had harbored similar homicidal thoughts toward four other APD officers. These statements prompted a thorough investigation into her actions and intentions, raising concerns about the severity of her threats.

Rawls faces several charges, including retaliation against law enforcement officers, which is a felony under Texas law. This case highlights not only the risks faced by police officers in high-crime areas but also the growing concerns regarding threats to law enforcement. The authorities are continuing to investigate Rawls’ previous involvement in drug-related offenses and any other potential threats she may have made against law enforcement officers.

As of now, Rawls remains in custody, and further legal proceedings are anticipated. The APD continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in the community.
