6-Year-Old Dies, 17 Hurt in Tragic New Jersey Apartment Fire

A tragic apartment fire in Ewing, New Jersey, killed a 6-year-old boy and injured 17 people on January 2, according to local authorities.

The fire broke out at the Cambridge Hall apartment complex on Lower Ferry Road around 3 p.m. Emergency services rushed to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.

When first responders arrived, they learned a young boy was trapped on the fourth floor of the building. Police and fire crews worked together to evacuate residents as they tried to reach the child. Once the fire department arrived, they rescued the 6-year-old, who was unconscious and not breathing. Sadly, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The fire quickly spread, and crews from nearby fire departments, including Trenton, Lawrence, Pennington, and Hopewell, joined the efforts to contain the blaze. In total, three civilians, one firefighter, and 13 police officers were injured. They were treated for smoke inhalation, burns, and exhaustion.

Cell phone videos captured dramatic scenes, with thick black smoke pouring from windows and flames erupting from the building’s upper floors. Witnesses described panic as people tried to escape, especially from the fourth floor where the fire started.

The fire is still under investigation, but it has left the community in shock. Local hospitals have treated the victims, and officials are continuing to assess the damage.
