In a dramatic turn of events, Pennsylvania State Police arrested an 18-year-old suspect after a high-speed chase and shootout that spanned multiple counties. Two juvenile suspects remain on the run as authorities continue their search.
Intense Pursuit Begins on I-81
The chaos erupted on February 23 when a woman driving on I-81 reported that someone in a red pickup truck pointed a firearm at her and other drivers. She was traveling with her two young children, ages three and seven, when the terrifying encounter unfolded.
State troopers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, but the driver fled, reaching speeds of over 100 mph. The pursuit led police through Dauphin and Schuylkill counties, where the suspects allegedly opened fire, striking a patrol vehicle.
Suspects Abandon Vehicle and Flee on Foot
The chase came to a halt near a Walmart on Terry Rich Road when the suspects’ truck became disabled. Four individuals bailed out, with two running up a nearby hill while the others entered the Walmart. Surveillance footage revealed they changed clothes inside the store before escaping.
Arrest and Ongoing Manhunt
Authorities arrested Kadence Gooch, 18, of Kingsport, Tennessee, who admitted to driving the stolen truck but denied firing any shots. He now faces multiple felony charges, including criminal attempted homicide, receiving stolen property, and fleeing police.
Another suspect, identified only as B.T.W, confessed to throwing firearms and ammunition out of the vehicle during the chase. Investigators believe the group was traveling along the East Coast, intending to break into vehicles and steal money.
Police recovered four firearms, three shell casings, and a discarded backpack from the scene. The search for the two remaining juvenile suspects is ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
