HAWTHORNE, CA – A dangerous manhunt is underway after an armed suspect fled a DUI checkpoint in Redondo Beach and fired at police in Hawthorne before vanishing into a nearby neighborhood.
According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, the high-stakes chase began Monday around 8:30 p.m. in the 12800 block of Roselle Avenue, where Hawthorne police joined the pursuit. The suspect, attempting to evade capture, opened fire on officers before escaping on foot near El Segundo Boulevard and Prairie Avenue.
Authorities quickly set up a perimeter and launched an intense search effort, with multiple police agencies assisting. Despite their efforts, the suspect remains at large as of Monday night. Law enforcement officials have not yet released a description of the suspect or any possible getaway vehicle.
Residents in the area are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward as they continue their search for the armed fugitive.
