Imagine this: it’s late Sunday night, and you’re cruising down U.S. 31 in Marshall County, Indiana. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a car is barreling toward you—going the wrong way! It sounds like something out of a movie, right? Well, for some drivers, this terrifying scenario was all too real.
Here’s what happened. Around 9:38 p.m., deputies from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene after reports of a 2009 Toyota heading north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 31.
After a quick search, authorities spotted the vehicle about three miles south of U.S. 6. Acting swiftly, the deputies entered the southbound lanes ahead of the Toyota and managed to bring the situation under control safely.
But that’s not where the story ends. When the driver, 47-year-old Dolores M. Hernandez, was stopped, it became clear something wasn’t right. Field sobriety tests revealed she was under the influence of alcohol. In fact, further testing showed her blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit.
Hernandez was arrested on serious charges, including Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (with a prior conviction) and Reckless Driving. She’s now in the Marshall County Jail, with bond set at $1,500.
Takeaway
Drunk driving is dangerous and puts everyone on the road at risk. Thankfully, no one was hurt this time, but it could have ended tragically. Always think twice before getting behind the wheel after drinking—it’s never worth it.
Stay safe out there, and let’s look out for one another on the road.
