Shocking: Woman Found Guilty of Attempted Arson on Three Homes in Hamptons

EAST QUOGUE, NY – A woman from East Quogue has been convicted of arson after attempting to set three homes on fire in Hampton Bays in November 2023.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that Amanda Burnside, who was found guilty by a jury, is scheduled for sentencing on February 25, 2025. She faces up to 25 years in prison for the crime.

“This defendant deliberately attempted to set three homes on fire, putting lives and property at grave risk,” Tierney said. “We thank the jury for holding this defendant accountable.”

The trial revealed that on November 12, 2023, Burnside tried but failed to ignite fires at two occupied homes in Hampton Bays. However, she successfully set a fire at a third home, which was occupied by four people at the time. Prosecutors say Burnside poured gasoline onto a wicker bench on the front porch of the home and then lit papers on fire to ignite the gasoline-soaked bench. The Southampton Town Police Department responded quickly, arresting Burnside at the scene.
