Erin Strotman, a 26-year-old former nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, is accused of causing serious harm to infants under her care. Strotman has been charged with one count of felony child abuse and one count of malicious wounding. She faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
Her arrest follows a police investigation into three infants who suffered unexplained fractures in November and December. Currently, Strotman is charged in connection with only one of the cases, though authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to determine if she was involved in other incidents.
The parents of one victim reported that a nurse discovered their baby’s injury while swaddling him. “She noticed his left leg wasn’t moving and saw some discoloration. After x-rays, doctors confirmed a fracture and put a splint on his leg,” the father explained.
Strotman is now being held without bond at Henrico County Regional Jail West.
Social Media Shows Contrasting Life Plans
Before her arrest, Strotman appeared to have an ideal future planned, as shown on her Pinterest boards. She saved ideas for engagement photos, family photoshoots, and holiday parties. Despite not having children, she curated images titled “dad and mom photoshoot,” as well as nursing-themed jewelry like a bracelet with a heartbeat design.
One board contained images flagged as sensitive, including boudoir photoshoot ideas. She also saved tattoo designs, such as a jellyfish, a compass, and a wolf paw for couples. Her boards also featured everyday interests like recipes for cowboy stew, Disney-themed party ideas, and Halloween appetizers.
Boyfriend Distances Himself
Following Strotman’s arrest, her long-term boyfriend has reportedly removed all traces of her from his social media accounts. Just a week earlier, she had saved engagement pictures, seemingly hopeful about their future.
Investigation Ongoing
The case began when three infants suffered injuries at the hospital. Police have not disclosed the victims’ identities but are carefully reviewing hospital footage to find more evidence.
This shocking case has left many questioning how such incidents could occur in a NICU, a place meant for the most vulnerable patients. The investigation continues as Strotman remains in custody.
