A man from Eastern Carolina is facing multiple charges, including drug-related offenses and reckless driving, after leading authorities on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash. The incident occurred on Monday in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, when a deputy from the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office observed a red 2010 Acura driving at 68 mph in a 55 mph zone. Upon noticing the speeding vehicle, deputies attempted to pull over the driver at the entrance to the Queenswood subdivision. However, the driver ignored the blue lights and siren and continued to flee.
The pursuit intensified as the driver accelerated, reaching speeds of up to 90 mph as they veered off Body Road and into the Queenswood Subdivision. The chase lasted for about four minutes, covering a distance of 2.35 miles. The pursuit ended when the driver lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Princess Anne Circle and Queenswood Boulevard, crashing into a ditch.
After the crash, the driver, later identified as 26-year-old Nikari Sylvester from Elizabeth City, fled on foot towards Queenswood Boulevard. Deputies quickly followed and arrested Sylvester shortly after. During the investigation, deputies recovered a significant amount of illegal substances and items. They found cocaine, a substance that is still being analyzed by the NC State Lab, 16 bindles of fentanyl, a weight scale, and a firearm.
Sylvester was taken into custody and charged with several serious offenses. These include one felony count of fleeing to elude arrest, one felony count of possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, and one felony count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance. Additionally, he faces charges for maintaining a vehicle to store a controlled substance, resisting a public officer, reckless driving to endanger, and more. He was also cited for traffic violations, including speeding and failing to maintain lane control.
Sylvester is currently being held at the Albemarle jail under a $100,000 secured bond.
