Lenoir County Couple Charged with First-Degree Murder in December Shooting

Lenoir County, N.C. – Authorities have charged two individuals in connection with the December 8th shooting death of Quinton Gray, 34, at his residence on Sweet Amy Lane. Nyasia Perkins, 29, and Calvin Coley, 29, are both facing charges of first-degree murder and felony conspiracy.

The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office arrested Perkins and Coley at their workplaces in Kinston on Wednesday. While deputies confirmed the pair worked together, they did not disclose their employer. Perkins resides in Lenoir County, while Coley is from Goldsboro.

Deputies report that Perkins, who lived at the Sweet Amy Lane residence with Gray, called 911 to report the shooting. The initial call was categorized as a breaking and entering incident. In the 911 recording, Perkins stated that she had been in bed when she heard gunshots.

911 Operator: “You said he was shot. Is he breathing?”
Perkins: “No, I don’t think so.”
911 Operator: “Alright, when did this happen?”
Perkins: “About 5 minutes ago.”
911 Operator: “How many are injured? Is it just him?”
Perkins: “Yes, it is just him.”
911 Operator: “Alright, and how many suspects were involved?”
Perkins: “I don’t know, sir, I was (redacted) in my bed and heard gunshots and put them under the bed.”
911 Operator: “And where is that suspect at now, do you know?”
Perkins: “No, sir.”

Authorities also confirmed that two small children were present in the home during the incident but did not report any injuries to the children.

Perkins and Coley are being held without bond and are scheduled to appear before a judge for their initial court hearing. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to piece together the circumstances surrounding the murder.
