A Southwest Airlines flight was delayed by nearly five hours on Wednesday after the pilot was arrested in Georgia for driving under the influence (DUI).
David Allsop, 52, was arrested at Savannah Hilton Head Airport and charged with DUI. His bond was set at $3,500, according to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia.
The flight was supposed to leave Savannah, Georgia, at 6:15 a.m., but it was delayed and eventually took off around 11:05 a.m., according to Southwest Airlines and the flight-tracking website FlightAware.
The flight was originally planned to land at Midway Airport around 7:20 a.m., but the delay caused it to arrive at about 12:10 p.m.
Southwest Airlines said they were aware of the situation and confirmed that the pilot had been “removed from duty.” They also said that passengers were given other flight options and apologized for the inconvenience.
Allsop, who is from New Hampshire, has been a licensed pilot for 16 years, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
